WESTWARD WOMAN;S INSTITUTE. At the March meeting each member had the privilege of inviting a friend. The president introduced Miss. PETTY of London ("the Pudding Lady), who gave a demonstration on cookery. She was accorded a hearty vote of thanks, on proposition of Mrs. ROPER, seconded by Miss. GARNER. There were 54 entries for a baking competition, in which eight prizes were given. These were judged by Miss. PETTY and the following were the prize winners: Sultana Cake: 1. Mrs. WOODBRIDGE, Overgreen 2. Miss BOWMAN, Ray's Lodge Jam Tart: 1. Miss. GARNER, Reathwaite 2. Mrs. J. MITCHELSON, Church Hill Queen Cakes: 1. Mrs. GARNER 2. Mrs. T. GRAHAM, Brackenthwaite Four Small Pastries: 1. Mrs. HENDERSON, Brackenlands 2. Mrs. MITCHELSON The daffodil bulb competition was also held this month and successful members were: 1. Miss. Mabel LOWES, High Hall 2. Mrs. MITCHELSON. During the evening a drawing took place for a fruit loaf given by Mrs. MAXWELL, Waverbridge; a friend gave a second prize and Mrs. ROPER a third. These were won by: 1. Miss. LITTLE, Sunny Bank 2. Miss. Mabel LOWES 3. Miss. HOLMES, Brownrigg. After co-operative supper, games were enjoyed, prizes being won by Misses S. LOWES, D. ROPER and Mary LOWES. |
