MOTOR ACCIDENT AT GREAT CLIFTON. A serious motor accident occurred at Great Clifton on Saturday evening to Mr. W. MAWSON, of Ullock. It appears that Mr. MAWSON was making the journey to Workington about 7 p.m. on his motor cycle. and when descending the hill known at Parrot's Brow, his motor cycle skidded on a road made greasy by a shower and crashed into a car driven by Mr. SKELTON, of Seaton, conveying a billiard party to Cockermouth. MAWSON's thigh was broken, and he was otherwise badly bruised and cut on the head. P. C. BAINBRIDGE and Mr. TIFFIN, of Workington and Supt. RITCHIE rendered first aid, and MAWSON was conveyed to Workington Infirmary. ****** KESWICK CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY. The report of the Keswick Co-operative Wholesale Society for the past quarter states that the sales amounted to £7,477, and the profit to £838 . The membership numbered 988 and the purchases from the co-operative sources amount to 78.4 per cent. The sales for the quarter were very satisfactory despite the falling prices and reduced income of many of their members. The work of rebuilding and modernising their premises was progressing quickly, and when completed they would be second to none. |
