MARYPORT AMATEUR'S RECOR FOR CHARITIES. ______ TREASURER'S LONG SERVICE MEDAL. ______ LOSS BY DEATH. The Maryport Amateur Operatic Society held their annual meeting at the Seaman's Institute, Maryport, on Monday night. Mr. H. O. MARSDEN presided, and referred to the death of Mr. R. COULTHARD, who had been a member since the Society's inception and had always been a keen member of the committee and chorus. The Society's loss, Mr. MARSDEN said, was deeper than merely the loss of his executive ability because he was a very dear friend of them all and was a man of genial disposition. Mr. MARSDEN hoped that the spirit of harmony and good will that he tried to engender would be lived up to by the members. The members stood in silent sympathy. Mr. A. HIRST, the secretary, in presenting his annual report, stated that the Society was in it's 21st year. Mr. GRAHAM had been treasurer the whole of that time, and he hoped that he would qualify for the long service medal of the National Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society given for 25 years of service. Mr. HIRST congratulated the young members on their keenness and ability that had been shown during their last production, "The Girls of Gottenberg." The treasurer, Mr. A. GRAHAM, in his report regretted to say that he was not able to show a credit balance on the year's working. However, he considered it ver satisfactory in view of the industrial state of the town. Mr. MARSDEN in proposing the adoption of the reports, stated that 3,700 people were at their last show. When they considered that there were about 1,700 unemployed in the town, it showed that the public enjoyed the show. A letter from the Victoria Cottage Hospital was read thanking the Society for their splendid effort. The election of officers was as follows: President, Col. G. J. SENHOUSE Chairman, Mr. H. O. MARSDEN Secretary, Mr. A. HIRST Treasurer, Mr. A. GRAHAM Business manager, Mr. J. J. BROWN Auditor, Mr. F. W. BOWE Property manager, Mr. E. HINE Wardrobe managers, Messrs: W. CURPHEY and T. WILLIAMSON Perruquier, Mr. E. NUTSFORD The committee were elected as follows: T. CAREY J. W. COLLINS W. J. CURPHEY Mrs. WHITE and the Misses. SCOTT and COOPER. |
