LOCAL AND GENERAL NEWS. ****** SLIGHT INJURIES. Thomas CONNERY, aged 54, of 2 North Road, Kells, a joiner, employed at Haig Pit, was admitted to the Whitehaven Hospital on Tuesday afternoon with slight injuries. ****** THE SCHOLARS. The scholars of Seascale Day School have made their annual collection on behalf of Dr. BERNARDO's Homes and Miss. HOWES, head teacher, has received a letter acknowledging the receipt of £3. ****** WIGTON SWIMMING AND WATER POLO CLUB. The Wigton Swimming and Water Polo Club played a good game on Saturday when they held their annual rummage sale in the Parish Rooms. They netted £14/16/4 thanks to the patronage of a large company. ****** WHITEHAVEN MAGISTRATES. The Whitehaven Magistrates present at Monday's Petty Sessions were: Mr. R. JEFFERSON, (chairman) Lieut. Col. G. DIXON (vice-chairman) Messrs. E. L. NANSON W. M. BIRKETT P. DALTON Mrs. EVANS ****** EIGHTEEN TABLES were occupied at the weekly whist drive in the Cleator Moor Conservative Club on Friday night. Prizes were won by: Ladies: 1, Mrs. BEATTIE, 2. Mrs. DAWSON Gents: 1. Mrs. THOMPSON (playing as gent) 2. Mr. McCRINK The M. C. was Mr. J. MILFUL. ****** NURSING SUCCESS. Mr. and Mrs. Jack SCOTT, of Moresby Parks, have just received word from their daughter, Miss. Mary SCOTT, that she has been successful in passing her final examination as a nurse. Miss. SCOTT is at present engaged at the Mill Road Hospital, Liverpool. |
