FLIMBY AND BROUGHTON MOOR.

   Members of the St. John's Ambulance Brigade on  Friday night held a whist
drive in the Welfare Hall, Flimby. The successful  competitors were: 1. Mr. J. K. WOOD and Miss. J. HODGSON

2. Mr. T. WILSON and Mrs. H. HODGSON

3. Miss. ARNOTT and Mr. C. TELFORD.

   The arrangements were carried out by the members of  the Brigade, with
Mr. W. WEIGHTMAN, local organiser.

FLIMBLY WESLEYAN BAND OF HOPE.

  A lantern lecture was given in the Wesleyan Hall on  Monday evening by Mr.
W. G. TAYLOR, Band of Hope agent, Workington. The subject  was "A Trip to
London," in which the chief views of the great city were shown.  Master G. LAMB
played for the hymns. Mr. GALE, manipulated the lantern. Mr. J.  MITCHELL moved
a vote of thanks. The proceeds were in aid of the Band of Hope  Union Funds.

CROSBY VILLA WOMEN'S OWN.

   Crosby Villa women's Own met in the Primitive  Methodist Chapel, Mr. W.
HOWARD, Maryport presiding over a good attendance, and  giving an address
entitled "The Order of the Ointment."

   Choruses were heartily sung by the members, and  refreshmenst were
afterwards handed round by Mesdames G. HARRISON, J. JENNINGS  and C. HILL. Mrs.
ALLISON was organist.

MARYPORT DEATH.

   Mr. Robert RITSON, of 8, White Cottages,  Ellenborough, died on Friday.
He had been ill for three years, and had been kept  to his bed for the last
twelve months. He was a miner, and spent the early part  of his mining life
working at the old Robin Hood and Grasslot pits. He later  worked at St. Helen's
and retired ten years ago. He was a member of the  Oddfellows, and their flag is
at half mast. He leaves a widow, three sons and  four daughters.
