DUNDRAW'S BIRTHDAY At the celebration of the seventh birthday of this Institute, 25 members of the Rosley W. I. were the guests of the evening, and Mr. G. SCOTT, Wigton, was the lecturer. Mrs. DIXON occupied the chair, and after extending a hearty welcome to the visitors, introduced Mr. SCOTT, who delighted the company with his illuminating talk on Tennyson's dialect verse and gave extracts from his lesser-known works. Mr. SCOTT was thanked, on the motion of Mrs. KEY, seconded by Mrs. BALFOUR. Co-operative supper was served by Mrs. STORY, Mrs. GLENCROSS, Mrs. TURNER and Misses BALFOUR and BEATY, during the course of which Miss. DIXON voiced the appreciation of her fellow members to the officials and committee for the beautiful cake they had given. The cake, which bore seven candles was made by Mrs. GLENCROSS. Games and competitions followed. The "Household Competition" was won by Mrs. FENWICK, Rosley, and Mrs. WILSON, Dundraw, and the guessing competition by Miss. OSBORNE, Rosley, and Miss. WILLIS, Dundraw. The winners of the "Musivcal Mat" were Miss. HODGSON and Miss. DIXON. Mrs. MIDDLETON was successful in the monthly competition for the best dyed pasche egg. These were judged by Mrs. SCOTT and Mrs. OSBORNE. Prizes were given by Mrs. HARRINGTON, Mrs. NORMAN, Mrs. ASHBRIDGE, Miss. DIXON, MIss. WOOD, Miss. MARRS, and Miss. STYTHE. On behalf of the Rosley members, Mrs. OSBORNE thanked the Dundraw members for the very pleasant evening, and this was seconded by Mrs. COULTHARD. |
