WHIST DRIVE AND DANCE AT WIGTON. _____ Wigton Agricultural Society ventured in a new direction on Friday night, when they held their first whist drive and dance, which was well attended by a large company from a wide area. There were 46 tables for whist, for which prizes were given, and these were won by the following: - 1. Mrs. W. OSBORNE, Sandwith, 181 2. Mrs. T. HARRYMAN, Wigton, 178 3. Miss. F. McMEEHAN, Wigton, 173 4. Miss. Vera LAWSON, 172 after a tie 5. Miss. I. BROWN, 172 6. Mr. G. A. CARRUTHERS, Wigton, 171 (playing as a lady. Consolation, Mrs. CARRUTHER, Longthwaite Road, Wigton. Gentlemen: - 1. J. J. ISMAY, Wigton, 178 2. Jos. WATSON, Westward Parks, 173. 3. E. SHORT, Wigton 4. R. P. JOHNSTON, Wigton, 170 5. After a tie of three, Jno. ROBERTSON, junr., Wigton, 169 6. E. GRINDLEY, 169 Consolation, Lewis BELL, Wigton The prizes were distributed by Mrs. DOLAN, The Limes, Wigton, who was introduced by Mr. W. HOPE. Music for dancing was supplied by the excellent Botchergate Picture House Orchestra, from Carlisle, whilst supper was in the capable hands of Mrs. BOWES, Imperial Café, Wigton. The M. C.’s for the whist drive were Mr. DOLAN and Messrs. W. HOPE W. WAUGH T. HARRYMAN, and for the dance R. B. MASON P. WANNOP T. A. RAVEN, whilst the arrangements were carried out by the committee, of which Mr. T. HARRYMAN, Wigton, was secretary. |
