SIDDICK WOMEN’S HOUR. _________ Owing to the indisposition of the president, Mrs. HENDERSON occupied the chair at the weekly meeting, at which there was a good attendance. Votes of condolence were passed to two members in their recent bereavement. Mrs. ROBINSON gave an inspiring address, Mrs. SAHW, Maryport, was heard to advantage as soloist, and the able accompanist was Mrs. FELL. Refreshments were served by the Ladies Committee. ************** CAMERTON OLD FOLKS REUNION. __________ Mr. Thos. CLARK, Trevene presided at the annual meeting in the Mission Room on Friday night. The financial statement showed a good balance in hand. It was resolved to have this year’s gathering on Boxing Day, to which all the aged people and widows will be invited. A whist drive will take place of the usual entertainment, and a social will follow. Mr. Thos. CLARK was re-elected chairman of the committee, with Mr. Robert STRAUGHTON hon. Treas. And Mr. John NORMAN, hon. Sec. ************************ SEASCALE DAY SCHOOL. ___________ The school managers have given up the tenancy of the school gardens. The attendance has fallen and there are few older boys, some having left to attend the secondary school. The diocesan report on religious instruction states, “The work is good on the whole. In the senior division, there is a notable improvement. The juniors continue to give good results.” The report concludes, “I was quite satisfied with the attainments reached and the progress being made.” |
