FOR AUSTRALIA      Messrs. J. R. MITCHELL and Sons, sold by auction on Saturday the household furniture of Mr. E. BENN, of Whitecroft, Gosforth, who is emigrating to Australia. Mr. BENN and his family sail on January 10th for Melbourne.    Mr. A. RODGERS, who has been in the employ of Mr. J. BATEMAN, Town End, Seascale, left on Friday en route for Melbourne.   ************   COUNTY CHESS JUNIOR SECTION.    The first match of the Junior Section of the County Chess competition was played in the Whitehaven Club on Friday night, between Whitehaven and Flimby, and resulted in a win for Whitehaven by 4 - 0. Details,  (Whitehaven names first): - C. S. CLARKE 1, S. THOMPSON, 0; R. L. BROOKS 1, D. IRVING 0, J. ROBINSON 1, J. PIELE 0; B. CROSSLEY 1, G. PAPE 0, Total 4 - 0.   **********   R. A. O. B.     The West Cumberland Knights, Chapter 99, R. A. O. B., G. L. E., held their annual dinner on Thursday, at the Workington Apple Tree Hotel.    Forty sat down to an excellent dinner, and between toasts musical items were given by Bros.   McCLUCKIE   MOTHERSILL   OWEN   SMITH   BIGRIGG   HENDERSON   TODD   BAILEY   BELL   STRAUGHTON   HUGHES   REAY   THOMPSON   KIRKPATRICK   POOLE   STACEY. HAYTON. ____    On Monday Mr. And Mrs. REID and their younger son left Hayton to go to Australia to join their elder son on a farm. In the course of his sermon on Sunday evening the Rector referred to their impending departure, and a farewell hymn was sung.    Mr. And Mrs. REID and their sons have the good wishes of a large circle of friends and neighbours for their success and happiness in their home across the sea.   *********   WORKINGTON PIGEON SHOW. ______    The sixth weekly show was held on Saturday in the Victoria Hall. BEES BRITISH LEGION. _______      The members of the Woman’s Section held a whist drive in the Legion Hall on Friday night, the winners to compete in the county drive for the British Legion national whist drive. There were twelve tables occupied, and the duties of M. C. Were carried out by Messrs. J. BROWN and C. SCOTT. Mrs. SCOULAR, Fleatham House, presented the prizes to the following winners: -   1. A., junior minister, Cleator Moor, occupied the pulpit, and at the evening service a large congregation appreciated his discourse on “Judas Iscariot,” The choir, under the conductorship of Mr. Albert BETHWAITE, rendered carols.   *********   RISEHOW MINERS LODGE. ______        The election of officials for the Risehow Lodge, C.
