TO THE ELECTORS OF NEWTOWN WARD. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, The period will shortly elapse for which I was elected, by a majority of the Trustees, to fill the vacancy in the representation of your ward caused by the retirement of Mr. Collins. Having previously to my election ascertained, by personal canvass, that the appointment would not be distasteful to you, I have the more confidence in offering myself for a re- newal of your confidence. Should you de- cide to re-elect me, I shall use my utmost endeavors to promote the formation of a wet-dock of a suitable size for the require- ments of the port, believing, as I do, that the continued prosperity of your town depends in a great measure on increased harbour accommodation. I have the honour to be, Ladies and Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, JOHN JACKSON. Scotch-street, October 4th, 1869. ~~~~~~~~~~ |
