UNCLE SAM'S EXCELSIOR BAND.

"IF CALLED UPON TO MAKE MY OWN LIVING
WHAT WOULD I DO AND WHERE WOULD I GO?"

******

Dear Uncle Sam, - In about two years I will have to leave school, and
try to make my own living. I would like to go to be a jockey. I would
first have to go to Newmarket to the stables to get trained. - I
remain, your affectionate nephew,

James HARKER, Keekle Cottage.

******

Dear Uncle Sam, - After I have left the school I will have to make my
own living. I would like to go and serve  my time to be a blacksmith.
When I am out of my time I would like to go to Africa to work at my
trade, for I believe there are good chances for a good workman. Your
affectionate nephew,

John CASSON
Brook Bank, Hensingham.

******

Dear Uncle Sam, - I would like best to be a lithographer or art
painter, and after serving my apprenticeship I would like to go to
London, Manchester, or some large town, where I could improve myself. I
think I could do well, as it is the kind of work I always thought most
of, but I am afraid I will have to give it up for something else, as
there are so few chances for it in Whitehaven. - I remain your
affectionate nephew,

Robert DENT
76, Duke-street, Whitehaven.
