Page 10 of 10 LOCAL AND GENERAL NEWS ITEMS. ****** The "Minnie Hinde" will run a daylight trip to Belfast on Saturday at Special rates. ****** The Bishop of Carlisle opened the new Parish Hall at Millom on Friday evening. ****** Messrs. RICKERBY and HARRISON, of Rowrah, took first prize for houdan cocks at the Edinburgh and Midlothian poultry show. ****** The Union Hall is about to be painted inside and out. The contract has been let to Mr. McCONN, who will make a start at once. ****** A pretty "choral flower service" was held in the Wesleyan Church on Sunday afternoon in connection with the Sunday School anniversary. At the close the children contributed bouquets of flowers to be sent to the Workhouse and Infirmary. ****** Distington School Board election will take place on June 9th. The following have been nominated: Rev. W. G. C. HODGSON Dr. CASTLES T. GARRETT J. BEWLAY J. ROPER T. WILSON W. YATES E. PLASKETT. The first five members are of the old board. ****** Lord LONSDALE has offered, on the condition that the towns people of Penrith will be at the expense of making the Racecourse into a decent ground for yeomanry drilling purposes, to lay on a water supply and erect stables for the horses of the regiment on the ground itself. ****** |
