Page 7 of 10 LOCAL AND GENERAL NEWS ITEMS. ****** Mr. John MUSGRAVE continues to improve. ****** Mr. Hy RYMER arrived at Calder Abbey on Tuesday evening. ****** The shipping trade has been quiet along the coast recently. ****** Serious damage has been done at Sydney by a tornado. ****** The Marchioness of Salisbury is recovering from her serious illness. ****** Lord SALISBURY has accepted the office of vice president of the British Empire League. ****** The Arlecdon, Frizington, and Asby Bible classes had a trip to Cockermouth on Saturday. ****** Her Majesty has conferred a baronetcy upon Mr. A. WILSON, manager of Messrs. CAMMELL's Works. ****** An excursion train, heavily laden, run off the line, near Sunderland, on Monday, but no one was injured. ****** Mrs. THOMPSON, of Moorside near Penrith, was found dead in a loft near her house, on Thursday last. ****** On Whit-Monday, an excursion train will run from Corkickle, to all the principal stations as far as Lakeside. ****** The marriage of Mr. ALLISON, M. P., and Miss. SLATER, daughter of Canon SLATER, took place quietly at Bournemouth, on Tuesday. ****** |
