LEES, a Carlisle draughtsman, committed suicide in the Eden on Saturday. ****** A butcher was killed by lightening at Deeping St. James, Lincolnshire, on Sunday night. ****** Mr. W. T. BENNETT, schoolmaster at Parton, has taken an appointment at Holmskirk. ****** It is expected that Mr. GULLY will be included in the list of those who receive Jubilee honours. ****** The men employed at Berks Mines, Frizington, are under notice to terminate work on the seventh inst. ****** Four boys were, at Cockermouth Police Court on Monday, each fined 20s for pulling down a fence. ****** Two men were killed, and seven injured, at Bolsover Colleries, near Chesterfield, on Friday night by a fall of soil. ****** There will be a procession, dinner, and sports, in connection with the Oddfellows Club at Gosforth on Monday next. ****** The entries for the Cockermouth Cricket Club sports, to be held on Monday, are more numerous than those of former years. ****** Mr. LEWTHWAITE, of Broadgate, passed through town yesterday, on his way to attend the funeral of an old tenant, at Lamplugh. ****** A proposal is on foot to change the name of the Westmoreland and Cumberland Yeomanry Cavalry, to the Westmoreland and Cumberland Hussars. ****** |
