THE PROSPECTS. _____ So far the number of ordinary passengers carried has shown an improvement on the figures of last season; and at Whitehaven the conviction is general that if the service was to and from Douglas as well as to and from Ramsey, there would be no doubt of the service paying it’s way without guarantee, and in spite of the harbour charges. The distance to Ramsey is the shorter, but by far the greater number number of passengers do not want to go to Ramsey, but to Douglas. But that is a question for the future. In the meantime it will be evident that the Harbour Commissioners could not very well have acted differently. They were practically ignored, although they gave earliest intimation that revised terms would have to be arranged, and they naturally refused to be again driven to take risks that they felt they had no right to take. |
