SPARKBRIDGE NEWS. _______ On Saturday last the Wesleyan Church Sunday School treat was held at Lanehead , Sparkbridge. The day was fine and a very enjoyable time was spent. Tea was provided for the children in the field which was kindly lent for the occasion by Mr. RIGG, Crakeside. The adult members had tea in the Schoolroom. Tea being over the children had sports, games &c., and swings had been requistioned, to the no small delight of the youngsters. Prizes were given for the various events, the gifts of the teachers, friends and visitors. Afterwards, as evening approached, all proceeded to the schoolroom, where each child was presented with an orange and a handkerchief. Miss. May HOLME then sang the solo, “Jesus Child,” and the scholars, “Dare to do right,” and the proceedings ending with the usual votes of thanks and doxology. During the afternoon, selections were played on the field by the Gawthwaite String Band, under the superintendence of Mr. James NELSON. |
