HAVERIGG UNITED METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY SERVICES. _____ The 40th anniversary of the above Sunday School was held on Sunday and Monday last. At the morning service the Rev. W. R. A. BUDD preached an eloquent sermon, the afternoon and evening services being given up to the children, when solos, recitations, dialogues &c., were given, Mr. W. OSBORN conducting and Messrs. MOLLARD and WILLIAMS presiding at the organ. The services, especially in the evening, were very well attended. The usual procession on Monday was unfortunately marred by the wet. However, the children and Sunday School teachers put in a appearance at two o’clock, and headed by the Haverigg Brass Band, paraded the village. The neat banners, bannerettes, &c., and fine dresses, looked anything but the best in the continuos downpour. Tea was provided for the children in the school room, and this was followed by a public tea, for which Mrs. HARRIS, Millom, was responsible. The tables were attended to by the teachers. The afternoon and evening proceedings should have consisted of games &c., with music from the band, in a field which Mr. MAWSON had kindly lent for the occasion, but the inclement weather prevented this part of the proceedings being carried out though it is understood that the children will have an opportunity of carrying out this part of the programme at a later date. |
