FORMER WHITEHAVEN MINER’S DEATH. ____ The body of a man found drowned in the Lune estuary below Cockersand Abbey Lighthouse (Morecambe) has been identified as that of John CAINE, aged 47, miner, Ashworth-street, Rushton, near Blackburn. He arrived at Lancaster on July 6th for a holiday and was missed the following day. He was a good swimmer. The fact that he was without jacket leads to the belief that he had used it to escape from the quicksand. The unfortunate man formerly lived at Whitehaven. |
