MOTOR ACCIDENT
AT MARYPORT.
_____

On Tuesday afternoon a serious motor accident occurred near St. Mary’s Church Corner, Maryport. Mrs. Kate FLANNAGAN, a visitor from Preston, a former resident in Maryport, was crossing the street, when suddenly she became aware that a motor cycle was bearing down on one side and a motor car was coming towards her from the other.

Uncertain what to do and unnerved by the danger she first stopped then darted forward. The result was that the driver of the motor, Mr. WILSON, Silloth, swerved to avoid her, and when she again rushed forward one of the wheels of the car struck her and threw her on to her head on to the ground with such force as to make her slide forward several feet.

She was picked up and carried into Dr. PROUD’s surgery, where it was found that she was severely injured about the face and head, and was suffering greatly from shock. She was subsequently removed to the cottage Hospital, where considering the nature of the accident and her injuries, she speedily improved and recovered her spirits. The patient is about 60 years of age.
