FATAL ACCIDENT TO A
WHITEHAVEN MAN IN SOUTH AFRICA.

 A cablegram was received in Whitehaven on Tuesday afternoon, conveying the sad intelligence that Mr. Andrew LEESON, a Whitehaven man, had met with a fatal accident.
 
 Mr. LEESON, who resided at Jeppes Extension, Transvaal, South Africa, left Whitehaven about eight years ago, and a few days before his departure was married to Ada, the youngest daughter of Mr. And Mrs. John BENSON, who for a great many years was head dockgate man at the docks. Mrs. LEESON and her father went out to Africa about four years ago.
 
 Mr. BENSON’s eldest son died in South Africa in January, 1910, and he has another son and daughter still in the Transvaal.
 
 Deceased leaves a widow and one child, and much sympathy will be extended to the family, who were well known and highly respected, in their sad and sudden bereavement.

AN OCTOGENARIAN’S FEAT.

 Among the followers who witnessed the hunt of the West Cumberland Otter Hounds in the lower rocks of the Derwent, on Tuesday, was Mr. Joseph STAMPER, who has followed otter and fox hunting all his life, walked seven miles to the meet, traversed seven miles of river bank, and walked home again.
