DRUNK IN CHARGE OF HORSES. ________ Wm. HAYES (25), cab driver, Banks Lane, Hensingham, was charged with having been drunk in charge of a wagonette, in Albion Street, Whitehaven at 10-2 p.m. on the 14th August. P. C. PRESTON said the prisoner was quite incapable of taking charge of the two horses that were attached to the wagonette. Defendant was fined 20s or 14 days imprisonment. ************** Wm. THWAITE, husbandman, Beckermet, was charged with having been drunk in charge of a horse and cart. Defendant was swaying about in the cart and was beating the animal with a stick. Defendant would not stop when called, and witness pursued him on a bicycle, and caught him at Beckermet. The horse was in a white lather. P. C. OLDCORN said he was in company with last witness and corroborated his evidence. The man was very drunk and the horse was sweating hard. |
