DEATH OF BARROW COUNCILLOR. _______ The death took place on Thursday morning of Councillor Thomas ASHBURNER (38), at his residence in Church-street. It is very sad to find, father, mother, and only son dead within a period of three months. Alderman ASHBURNER was the pioneer of shipbuilding at Barrow, and Mrs. ASHBURNER came from one of the oldest families on Walney Island. Their deaths within a month of each other were a big strain uponCouncillor ASHBURNER, who has not been in robust health for some years. Councillor ASHBURNER took to his bed a week ago, and on Tuesday had a paralytic seizure, from which he never rallied. He had been a representative of the Salthouse Ward on Barrow Town Council for nine years, and he was present at the Council meeting a week last Monday. In politics he was a Liberal, and he always lent his services to temperance movements. He was admitted a solicitor in 1902, and he took his Bachelor of Arts degree at Cambridge. |
