AMBLESIDE ROMAN FORT
EXCAVATION.
____

Interesting excavations of the Borrans Camp, Ambleside, recently purchased for the National Trust, are being carried out under the auspices of the Cumberland and Westmoreland Antiquarian and Archeaological Society, under the supervision of Mr. R. G. COLLINGWOOD.

Operations were started on Monday at the north-west corner; some free stone and Roman pottery were unearthed as well as a pair of Roman sandals three or four feet deep. Walls of the buildings, two Roman sling bullets, and a bronze button, are also among the interesting discoveries.
