I wish to become a member of the Excelsior Band of West Cumberland, and in order to qualify for the same I subscribe to the following resolutions, namely, "I will try to improve my mind by reading sensible books. "I will try to write a good plain hand. "I will be merciful and not cruel to animals, and thus set a good example to others. "I will not make use of profane, vulgar, or objectionable language. "I will try to be industrious and active. "I will try to be honest and truthful. "I will aim at the advancement of my condition, and will lend a helping hand to any of my comrades of the Excelsior Band who may require my aid and influence. "I will urge my friends to join the Band." DEAR NIECES AND NEPHEWS, I am pleased to see any new names on my list, and hope all nephews and nieces will get their friends to join.  They need not write the long form out, but merely state that they have read it and wish to subscribe to it. Boys and girls between 8 and 14 years of age are eligible, and Catholics and Protestants are alike welcomed.  They should write and say: - "Having read the application form, I subscribe thereto, and wish to have my name put uipon your list. Name........................................... Address........................................ Age.............................................. Date............................................. Witness........................................."
