RURAL DISTRICT COUNCIL ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The fortnightly meeting was held on Thursday. Present: MR. G. W. KENWORTHY (Chairman), REV. S. G. CRAIG, REV. W. G. C. HODGSON, MESSRS. J. J. DIXON, GRAHAM, ATKINSON, WATSON, MUSGRAVE, BRAGG, BLACK, REDSHAW, PETTIGREW, DICKINSON, AINSWORTH, and J. DALZELL; with MR. ATKINSON (Clerk), DR. FISHER (medical officer), MR. BOYD (surveyor) and MR. SMITH (sanitary inspector). MR. KENWORTHY was re-elected chairman, and MR. DICKINSON as vice-chairman, for the coming year. The Clerk said he had received a number of objections from owners to the apportionment of the expenses in the improvement of streets at Parton. The matter would come before a court of summary jurisdiction when the proper time arrived. The medical officer reported that during the month of March, there had been 24 deaths and 34 births; the only case of infectious disease was one of scarlet fever in a child at St. Bees. In accordance with notice, MR. WATSON moved "That this Council take proper proceedings on the representation received from the Parish Council of Lowside Quarter under section 26, sub-section 24, of the Local Government Board, 1894, to maintain the public right of way to the beach now obstructed at Braystones Station." MR. DIXON suggested that MR. WATSON should place before them, the evidence in favour of opening up the road, and suggested the appointment of a committee to go into the matter. MR. PETTIGREW opposed the motion, on the ground that there was no documentary evidence to prove a right of way. MR. GRAHAM did not believe there was any right of way at all; it was a private road belonging to MR. LITTLEDALE (of Liverpool). MR. HODGSON, and MR. SMITH, of Braystones. - The matter was eventually referred to the Works Committee. MR. DICKINSON gave notice of motion that he would draw the attention of that Council to the dangerous corners at Kelton Head, Lamplugh. ================================================== |
