POLICE INTELLIGENCE _____________________ WHITEHAVEN -- THURSDAY ========================= R. W. WILSON and T. LOWREY were each fined 10s or seven days' imprisonment, and J. SIMMONS and P. TRAINER were fined 15s or fourteen days, for being drunk and disorderly. MR. ATTER applied for the temporary transfers of licences as follows, the request being granted in each case: --- Anchor Vaults, Queen-street, from MISS ELIZABETH DICKINSON to MISS ANNIE DICKINSON The Black Cat, Egremont, from MRS. FRANCES WILSON to MR. ROBERT SHORTRIDGE The Green Dragon, Church-street, from MR. WM. HUMPHRIES to MR. J. WHINERAY. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Carlisle sports were held on Monday, when there were about 7,000 people present. The following are the results of the finals: Open Events - 120 yards handicap footrace, 1st, G. HURST, Whitehaven Harriers; 2nd R. HOLMES, Bowness; 3rd H. THISTLETHWAITE, Salford. Quarter-mile bicycle handicap, 1st, A. WAITE, Cockermouth; 2nd, F. RUBMAN, Carlisle; 3rd R. N. WOODEND, Dalton J. BRAGG, Whitehaven Harriers won the 880 yards steeplechase. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The following is the result of the band contest, held at Carlisle Castle on Monday : --- 1st, St. Joseph/s, Frizington 2nd, Frizington Town 3rd, Carlisle Artillery 45h, Haverigg 5th, Derwent (Workington) Frizington Town Band also took the prizes for the cornet and euphonium solos, while Haverigg Band won the trombone solo prize. =========================================================== |
