Page 7 of 7 ESKDALE. ~~~~~~~~~ A shooting match between MESSRS. J. SOUTHWARD and J. GRAVES against MESSRS. J. TAYLOR and L. THOMPSON, six birds each, will shortly take place. MR. I. DIXON is appointed stakeholder. The hotels were all well filled for Easter. On Good Friday the Eskdale Football team played two matches, which resulted as follows: -- Eskdale, five goals against Whitehaven three; Eskdale one goal against Millom one. The Glee Club will hold a concert and ball to-morrow (Friday) night at the Schoolroom, Eskdale Green, the REV. R. H. SNAPE will preside at the former. The receipts will go to the funds of the club. A committee has been appointed to make arrangements for Jubilee Day, and we are looking forward for a good time on that day in Eskdale. The weather has been very stormy for Easter, but in spite of this a good number of visitors were in the dale on Good Friday and Easter Monday. Farmers are very busy at present sowing corn and planting potatoes, and a few days of good weather will place them well forward. The hill tops are still covered with snow, and fishermen have had very poor sport in the rivers. =========================================================== |
