Page 3 of 7 RAVENGLASS ~~~~~~~~~~~ LORD MUNCASTER has been appointed chairman and CANON BELL vice-chairman of the Parish Council . MR. WATT and MR. J. SIM are the overseers. The unfavourable weather prevented many passing through to Eskdale on Good Friday morning, but during the afternoon, which was fine, there were many visitors on the move. There was quite a lot of guests at the Pennington Arms over the week end, and on Good Friday afternoon sixteen cyclists visited this hotel, and had tea there. The procession as they left was an interesting sight. The gullery on the sand hills threatened last week to get deserted as, owing doubtless to the cold hask weather, the birds ceased to lay, and appeared to be less in number, but during the present week they have resumed operations, and there are thousands upon thousands of nests ready. The dog belonging to MR. MYERS, of Mitehouses, was run over by the 9 o'clock luggage train on Saturday, close to the estuary bridge, and had a leg and shoulder cut clean off. To put the animal out of pain, its owner dropped it over into the tide where its struggles were witnessed for a long time. JOE FARRAN caught ten lobsters in his pots on Saturday, which was not bad for his first hawl. His services are in good demand by parties going to visit the seagull colony. A large number of plover eggs were collected about here last week. MR. DAVIDSON bought the safe sold at MR. COUSIN's sale, so is now in possession of one of the largest in the district. =========================================================== |
