The Higher Grade School at Maryport is about to be closed. MRS. SCHMID has disposed of her house at Lonsdale-terrace, St. Bees. MR. T. SMITH and MR. G. JACKSON have been appointed overseers at Distington. The last train from Carnforth did not get to Whitehaven on Thursday night till after midnight. MR. JOHN BENSON'S foxhounds visited Buttermere on Monday, and hunted two foxes, but failed to kill. The Corporation scavengers have lately been arrayed on wet days with gorgeous yellow waterproof capes. Whitehaven Rugby team defeated Westoe (on tour from the Tyne district) on Monday by twelve points to ten. The Conservatives of West Cumberland are expressing open dissatisfaction at LORD LONSDALE's newspaper. The REV. JAMES ANDERSON preached a most eloquent and interesting sermon at Holy Trinity on Good Friday morning. A cyclist, who negligently knocked down and injured a working man at Edmonton, was ordered to pay £30 damages at the County Court. MR. ALFRED LEECH, the sailor son of MR. and MRS. P. LEECH, was presented with a handsome gold watch, chain and pendants on Monday last. The HON. H. V. DUNCOMBE, M.P. for this division of the County has not missed a single open division during the present Parliamentary session. That useful fountain at the high end of Lowther-street and opposite the Castle Gates, has recently been removed.  It is hoped only for some repairs. The demand for primroses on Monday, Primrose day, was greater than the supply, but for all that, the number who wore this flower testified to the popular feeling. At Cockermouth, it has been decided to celebrate the Jubilee by two processions, thanksgiving services, an old folks' dinner, children's tea and sports, and bonfires. Crocodile skin is the latest out in material for ladies shoes.  MR. WALLACE is now showing a sample or two, and as they are the first of the kind ever seen in town, they are causing some interest.
