WERE sent a Primrose wreath to decorate the picture of LORD BEACONSFIELD, at the Working-mens' Conservative Club, Hensingham, also one to decorate LORD BEACONSFIELD's bust at the Conservative Hall, Whitehaven, to the latter the following quotation was appended as an inscription: "The wise men who built up the realm of England, devised the doctrine of the Royal Supremacy, which gave control over ecclesiastical affairs to laymen, and which is at present the only security for our religious liberty and the great security of our civil rights." ___________________________________________________________________ The following are the returns of Easter bookings from Bransty station during the holidays: THURSDAY - Ordinary traffic, 510-1/2; Glasgow excursion, 60. MR. BOWLY was re-appointed chairman and MR. W. E. WALKER, vice-chairman. All the members of the Council were present, last year's work was begun with a balance on hand of £5 4s 4d., and during the year the Council received £30. The payments were £28 1s 1d., the greater part of which was for bridges, in lieu of some the storm had broken up, and for footpath steps and rates. The year ended with £7 3s. 3d., in hand, about 1d. in the £ had been expended, most of which was for extraordinary purposes, the overseers accounts were received, and the amount allowed to the assistant overseer for collecting rates determined as regards special drainage rates, and recommended as to Poor Rates, the Footpaths, Farm, Technical Education, and Lighting Committees were appointed. MESSRS. MULCASTER STAFFORD, and N. N. THOMPSON were appointed overseers, and a resolution was passed "that the Council meet bi-monthly, and the next meeting be held in the first Monday in June. ========================================================== |
