UNCLE SAM'S EXCELSIOR BAND OF BOYS AND GIRLS IN WEST CUMBERLAND ********** "MY FAVOURITE HOME-GROWN FRUIT, AND HOW I LIKE TO EAT IT." ********** continued: Dear Uncle Sam,-- The home grown fruit I like best is the apple, and I like to eat them just as they come off the trees. It is grand to be in an orchard when the apples are all ripe and ready for taking off the trees. They are also very nice in a pie or a dumpling.-- I remain, your loving nephew, Willie LANCASTER, 20, Church-street, Moor Row. Dear Uncle Sam,-- The home grown fruit I like best is the apple. There are many others I like such as pears, plums, &c., but the apple is my favourite, and the way I like to eat it best is to have it roasted before the fire, and then eat it with sugar and cream.-- I remain, your loving niece, Sarah Lizzie PORTER, 3, Moor Cottages, Millom. Dear Uncle Sam,-- My favourite home grown fruit is the gooseberry, which can be eaten in different ways, but I prefer them in a cake. Some gooseberries are yellow when ripe, and others are red. It will not be long until the gooseberries are ripe. There are a great many different kinds of fruits, but this is my favourite. -- From your affectionate niece, Mabel GRAVE, High House, Eskdale Dear Uncle Sam,-- My favourite fruit is the apple. There are many kinds of apples, such as the crab apple and the pine apple, but the one I prefer is the lemon square ,and the way I like to eat it is to have it raw. Many people say that eating fruit before it is ripe is bad for you.-- I remain, your affectionate nephew, J. B. SALKED The Hinnings, Distington, R.S.O. |
