The first Parish Meeting was well attended, and keen interest was taken in the election of the first Parish Council. The proceedings were, however, not quite so dignified as might have been expected. Some of those present were rather excited, and others were evidently "in for a lark," which, to- gether with a want of firmness on the part of the chairman, made things a little disorderly at times.
Mrs. JOHNSTON gave a lecture on Tuesday night in the Public Hall, in aid of the church organ fund. The subject was "A tour through Germany." The lecture was illustrated by the magic lantern, which was very ably manipulated by Mr. Joseph HELLON. Considering the well known capabilities of the lecturer, the attractive subject, and the object in view, there was not as large an audience as might have been expected. Perhaps the travelling minstrel troupe, together with a two days' sale the previous week, had carried off most of the spare cash. The Rev. H. M. FAIRLIE, who was in the chair, announced that the organ fund now amounts to £170. About £40 is still required.
Mr. TOWNSON expects to have the building of the organ nearly completed this week end.
