The Eskdale Football Club have postponed their ball for a week, as the ballroom at Stanley Ghyll Hotel will not be completed, owing to the weather, on the day fixed upon, so it will come off on Friday, April 2nd.
The recent heavy rains have nearly cleared the snow from the mountain tops, and some fishermen have succeeded in making good baskets from the Esk. Mr. J. RAVEN heads the list, having caught 18 nice trout last Tuesday.
Sheep are suffering on account of the stormy weather, and some farmers report heavy losses among their flocks, but we hope to have a change soon and the benefit of a few fine days.
The Parish Council meeting was held at the High School on Thursday last, and the selection is the same as last year, with the exception of Mr. J. VICARS, who is succeeded by Mr. T. NEWBY.
I have been requested to say that if the Eskdale Football Club would play a game of Rugby that the high end of the Dale would be glad to make a fixture with them for Saturday, April 3rd, for a practice game.
Mr. and Mrs. NEWBY, The Howes, are busy moving their furniture to their new farm at Ennerdale. The stock is there already. We are all sorry to part with them. They take with them the good wishes of everybody in the Dale.
There was a great demand for the "Gazette" on Thursday, and a second supply had to be telegraphed for.
