Page 3 of 4 Mr. FISHER, one of the best known residents at Trumpet-terrace, Wath Brow, met with a serious accident on Saturday, when he started on his bicycle for Cockermouth to see the football match. When passing through Lamplugh Cross something went wrong with his machine, which ran into the wall, throwing him so violently against it as to split his head. He was removed to the public-house, where he has been attended by two doctors. His condition was so critical that his friends were sent for. ******** Mr. J. A. HOPE was charged at Carlisle on Saturday with keeping a dangerous dog not under proper con- trol on March 9th. Mr. D. MAIN appeared for Mr. HOPE and pleaded not guilty. A constable stated that he saw the dog bite a boy aged six years, who had done nothing to annoy the dog; he had also re- ceived a complaint the same day from a Mr. DODD. Thomas DODD, aged nine, said the dog bit his leg as he was going to school. For the defence, Mr. MAIN asked the magistrates to look at the dog, which was only a puppy. It had only behaved like a puppy and would be broken of its puppy habits. The Bench made an order for the dog to be kept under proper control, defendant to pay the costs of the proceed- ings, amounting to 16s. ******** |
