Page 7 of 12 FRESH FISH A gentleman living in Millom went abroad to India, and brought back with him a black servant. One day he sent the sevant for some fish. The shop was full, and while ther sevant was waiting to be served, he took up a large fish and began to smell it. "What are you smelling it for? All the customers are looking at you," said the assistant. "I was not smelling it; I was talking to it," said the servant. "What were you saying to it?" asked the assistant. "I was asking it what news there was from the sea," re- plied the servant. "And what did it say?" again asked the assistant. "It said it didn't know," answered the servant, "because it hadn't been there for a month." Ettie WILSON, Moor House, Millom |
