A Peal of Bells for Whitehaven,  continued.
The double event would constitue something to
be remembered, and that would testify to gener-
tions to come that the present day residents of
Whitehaven knew how to mingle business with
pleasure.  A peal of bells is the very thing White-
haven wants. The residents needsomething to
waken them up, and what can be more enlivening
to the spirits in a sleepy town than a peal of
merry bells.  If this latter suggestion should meet
with approval it is believed it would "catch on"
at once, and that some of the members of the
Joint Committee would avail themselves of the
opportunity to present single bells, who would
not dream of expending a sum amounting to their
cost in contributing to the carrying out of any of
the schemes now under consideration.  Of course,
the erection of a good school would be a per-
manent benefit, but as neither the Joint Com-
mittee or the public appear to throw the slightest
entusiasm into the proposal, it is almost certain
to fall to the ground in its present hands,
to be gathered up again by more active spirits.
