LOCAL AND GENERAL NEWS ITEMS. ****** Mr. E. BRAITHWAITE. of Seascale. died at eight o'clock yetserday morning. ****** Mr. PATMAN opened his drug store at Seascale last week. ****** Col. HUDDLESTON is now in residence at Irtside, Holmrook. ****** The Indian Famine Fund, on Tuesday evening amounted to £526,000. ****** On the occasion of the king of Spain's birthday 158 political prisoners were set at liberty. ****** Mr. John JACKSON, of Hensingham House, is deriving a good deal of benefit from his sponsors in Bath. ****** Mr. and Mrs. E. WALKER and family, Croft End, are occupying apartments at South Parade, Seascale. ****** Geo. PATERSON was, at Edinburgh on Monday, sentenced to death for murdering a woman by means of a red hot poker. ****** The Rev. T. L. BURROWS, of Bolton, was the preacher at the Workington Congregational Sunday School anniversary services on Sunday last. ****** Mrs. KNIGHT of Kitchen Ground, who was well known at the Whitehaven Market, died on Friday and was buried at Irton Churchyard, on Tuesday. ****** According to yesterday's "Liverpool Mercury" a receiving order has been issued against George C. SANDERSON, Lime-street, Liverpool, Hotel proprietor. ****** >From Mr. ORD's announcement in another column, it will be seen that an examination in connection with the college of Violinists will shortly be held at Whitehaven. ******
