LOCAL AND GENERAL NEWS ITEMS. ****** Mr. John MUSGRAVE is said to be slowly improving. ****** Mr. PATTINSON, Mayor, is better, and was in town yesterday. ****** The W. & C. Yeomanry will assemble at Penrith on Wednesday next. ****** The Manx Wesleyan Synod was held on Monday, Tuesday, and yesterday at Douglas. ****** The School Board Election at Distington is at hand, and a contest is anticipated. ****** Wild hyme grow in abundance on the main road near Yottenfews. ****** The violets and primroses on the railway slopes at Nethertown are magnificent. ****** Millom Bible Christians held their Sunday School anniversary services on Sunday and Monday. ****** Mr. SCHMID, formerly of St. Bees, is opening a school at Balham, London. ****** Workington Presbyterian Choir gave a concert at Parton Congregational Church on Thursdeay evening. ****** Two Keswick young ladies were fines 10s and costs, for riding bicycles without lights on Saturday. ****** Mr. and Mrs. Jas. FAWCETT, of the Castle Hotel, Millom, entertained the Millom Football Club to dinner on Monday evening. ****** At a meeting in the Working Men's Institute on Monday evening, it was decided to have a trip to Scale Hill on Whit Monday. ******
