SMALL NEWS ITEMS.
Seven Darlington bookmakers were on Tuesday fined £1 and £2 each for street betting.
Americans in London propose to endow beds in several of the larger hospitals as a memorial of the Queen's reign.
A well executed bust of Her Majesty is on view in Lowther-street in the window of the London & Manchester Co., by MR. CROASDALE, of this town.
Christ Church Easter Vestry was held on Friday. In the absence of the Vicar, the chair was taken by REV. GEORGE NEDHAM. The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed, MR. JAMES made a statement with respect to the improvements in the Church, and with reference to the projected memorial of the Queen's Jubilee.
These matters, he said, would come before a meeting of the parishioners which would shortly be convened.
The Churchwardens' accounts, which showed a balance in hand of £5 9s 0d. were passed.
MR. H. M. JAMES was nominated vicar's warden, and MR. M. THORNBER was elected Peoples' Warden.
MESSRS. J. PATTINSON, E. GRAYSON, ROSE, OSBORNE, T. GORDON, MCCRAY, STEELE, A. PRIESTMAN, J. LEWTHWAITE, and E. PARTINGTON were elected sidesmen.
MESSRS. ROSE and MCCRAY were re-elected lay-representatives on the Ruri-Decanal Council.
A hearty vote of thanks was given to the churchwardens, sidesmen, officials of the church, and to the choirmaster, MR. W. GRAY, and the members of the voluntary choir for their services during the past year.
A vote of thanks to the chairman which was suitably acknowledged brought the meeting to a close.
