JOHN MAGAN, 28, was fined 20s, for refusing to quit the Black Bull Inn.

HENRY ROBINSON was charged with being drunk in charge of a horse and cart,

and was fined 15s.

JAS. ALLEN (Whitehaven) was summoned for acting as a pedlar without a

licence. Defendant said he made his own "stuff", and did not consider

himself a pedlar. The Clerk said he was mistaken, and made himself liable

to a penalty. Let off on payment of costs, 6s 6d.

DANIEL COWAN (Lamplugh) had to pay costs, 6s 6d., for having used bad

language.

ROBT. GOULDIE (Frizington) was fined 8s., including costs, for a similar

offence.

OLIVER SENOGLES had used obscene language on two occasions, and was fined

10s for the first offence, and 15s for the second.

OLIVER SENOGLES was also summoned for having done wilful damage to flower

pots, a window, and a door, the property of MRS. GOULDIE, Wath Brow. MR.

CHAPMAN appeared for the complainant. MRS. GOULDIE said her husband was in

South Africa, but her two daughters and a lodger lived with her, and

defendant lived next door.

On April 10th, about 11-30 p.m., defendant came and kicked their back door

violently. Witness knew his voice, and after he had shouted several times,

he went to the front door and rattled it. She then heard a crash in the

parlour window, and afterwards saw that two panes in the window were broken

and two china flower pots were lying broken on the floor; there was a

footmark on the window sill.

MRS. SMITH, a neighbour, came to the house, and defendant tried to knock

MRS. SMITH's nose off if she came out of the house.

This was not the first time he had conducted himself like this. CLEMENT

ROTHERY, market inspector, and ALBERT SEARBY also gave evidence. Defendant

was fined 40s, or one month's imprisonment.

On the application of MR. CHAPMAN, the transfer of the licence of the Albert

Hotel from WM. DIXON to MRS. HENDERSON, Brookside, Cleator, was granted.

MR. H. BRAITHWAITE also applied for the transfer of the Golden Lion,

Ennerdale-road, Cleator Moor, from MARY KEOUGH to MARIA BURNS. - Granted.

MARY TOWERS was fined 2s 6d for not sending her daughter regularly to

school.
