DISTINGTON PARISH CHURCH.
_______
Thanksgiving services at this church were held on Friday evening, when a good congregation attended to hear capital music and an able sermon by Rev. F. K. FELL, Whitehaven.
The sacred edifice had be beautified by willing hands and the general effect in the church so pretty ordinarily was very pleasing. Supplies of grains, fruit and vegetables had been forwarded in good quantities from:
Mrs. HODGSON, The Rectory
Mr. ROBERTSON-WALKER, Gilgarron
Mr. J. CLARKE, Distington Hall
Mr. James CLARKE, Kelmore Hills
Mr. BOADLE, Museum Cottages
Mr. W. HARRISON, Highcastle Farm
Mr. SOUTHWARD, Boonwood
Mr. D. LIGHTFOOT, Hinnings
Mr. J. SALKELD, Beckside
Mr. J. TALLENTIRE, Mid Town
Mrs. KIRKPATRICK, Mid Town
Mr. Wm. MARSHALL, Distington
Mrs. BEWLEY, Hope and Anchor Inn.
These gifts had been prettily arranged by:
Mrs. HODGSON
Miss. NEEN
Misses FEARON (2)
Misses. DRYDEN, (2)
Miss. HARRISON
Miss. BEWLEY
Mr. KYDD
Mr. CLARKE
Mr. GREGSON
Mr. CHAMBERS
Mrs. CASTLES
Miss. CROOKDALE
Re. L. G. LUMB
The services were continued on Sunday when communion was celebrated, the Rector being celebrant. The service was fully choral (Steyn in F.) The solo was taken by Mr. GIDDINS, whose rendering charmed his hearers very much. The special preacher was the Rev. W. J. MARSH, M. A., vicar of Crosscanonby, who preached a very effective sermon.
At the evening service the capacity of the building was taxed to its utmost. The service was very bright and the music excellent. The Rector intoned the service and the responses were very capably given by the choir with Mr. BRUNSKILL, organist in charge. The anthem was well rendered and again Mr. GIDDINS pleased his hearers with a capitally rendered tenor solo.
The Rev. J. W. MARSH read the lessons and gave a very interesting address on harvest festivals as to what their object should be. A nice service was concluded by the singing of a suitable hymn as recessional.
