The fortnightly meeting of the Cleator Moor District Council was held in the Council Chamber, Public offices, Cleator Moor, on Monday evening. Present: -

In the unavoidable absence of Mr. GAYTHWAITE the chairman of the council, Mr. MURPHY was voted to the chair.
GENERAL PURPOSES COMMITTEE.
At a meeting of this Committee on October 13th it was recommened that the Surveyor write to the Co-operative Society respecting water supply; that Messrs GAYTHWAITE, FLYNN, MOORE, and MURPHY be a sub-committee to deal with allotments; that Messrs CHAPPLE and Sons plans be referred to the Sub-Works Committee; and that the Surveyor be instructed to carry out the improvements pointed out to him by the Sub-Works Committee in Ennerdale Road Stone Yard, with a view of preventing further floodings.
The minutes were adopted.
OUTBREAK OF TYPHOID FEVER.
A FATAL CASE.
The Medical Officer, Dr. EATON in his fortnightly report stated that 28 cases of scarlet fever, two of typhoid with complications, and one of erysipelas had been reported. For the fortnight ending 15th inst, nine births and two deaths had been reported. One of the deaths was due to typhoid fever complicated with pneumonia. On the 13th inst. The typhoid fever case died at 22, North Street, and was buried without delay. On the same day the other case of typhoid occurring in the same house was removed to Galemire Fever Hospital and a trained nurse was wired for. She arrived late the same evening and was now on duty there.
The Sanitary Inspector reported that on Monday last, October 15th, he removed to Galemire Fever Hospital a case of typhoid fever from 22, North Street, Cleator Moor. He must again drwa the Council’s attention to the condition of the van. The patient in question complained very much of the jolting while being removed.
Mr. CIAPPESSONI asked who the van belonged to.
The Inspector: To the Joint Authorities.
Mr. BURNS observed that the matter was under the consideration of the Joint Hospital Committee.
Mr. CIAPPESSONI proposed that a copy of the inspector’s report, referring to the van be sent to the Joint Hospital Committee for their consideration.
Mr. LAMB seconded the proposition, and it was agreed to.
