ST. CUTHBERT'S CHURCH, SEASCALE. Mr. and Mrs. WHITTLE, Falcon House, have given to the church a third brass alms plate and have had the other two cleaned and re-lacquered. During the summer season when there are large congregations the new alms dish will be found very useful. On Sunday evening the Rev. Henry Eldred WOOD, B. A., of St. John's, Barrow-in-Furness, was the special preacher. There was a large congregation. The plans of the vicarage are in the hands of the Ecclesiastical Commissioners for final approval, after which a start will be made. Subscriptions have been sent from Captain WHITTLE, Shanghai, £5. Mr. BURDEHIN, a visitor sends £2 2s as a thank offering for benefits received during his stay at Seascale. Miss HUBBARD and Miss. Alice HUBBARD have each collected £1. The Harvest Festival preacher will be the Rev. Hubert F. TILBURY, B. A., curate of Cleator Moor. ****** COCKERMOUTH SCHOOL ATTENDANCE OFFICERS IN CONFERENCE. A conference of the members of the Cumberland Branch of the School Attendance Officers' Association was held at the Public Offices, Penrith, on Saturday. There was a good attendance. Mr. SLOAN, Workington, the senior officer in Cumberland, presided, and Mr. F. W. BARNES, Leigh, Lancashire, read a capital paper on "The School Attendance Officer: His work, aims, and aspirations." A discussion followed. ****** |
