SHORT ARTICLES. ****** TECHNICAL INSTRUCTION AT BECKERMET. The local committee met in the schoolroom, Beckermet, on Tuesday evening, to arrange for the technical work for the coming season. The Rev. W. GABBOT presided, and there were also present: Miss. SELKIRK Miss. BEWLAY Mr. W. TRIPPIEAR Mr. A. L. BUCHANAN, Clerk. The question of classes for the coming winter was gone into, and it was decided to again apply for the woodcarving class; also a night school or continuation class for youths, should sufficient pupils be obtained. It was also decided to ask for a class of laundry demonstrations and lessons, and a course of three horticultural lectures. The Clerk informed the committee that the nursing lectures applied for last session will begin on Tuesday, September 26th, and will continue the four following Tuesdays in October. ****** ABBOT BAMFORD It will interest many of his Cumberland friends to learn that Abbot BAMFORD has been given the cure of St. Wilfrid's Blyth, Northumberland. This is the largest mission on the East Coast in charge of the Benedictine Fathers, and it happens to be the first mission in which Abbot BAMFORD served as curate, and from which he was transferred to Frizington. We hear his appointment is received with great satisfaction by the congregation at Blyth, and we are sure his Cumberland friends wills end their best wishes after him in his new sphere of labour. ****** TEMPORARY TRANSFER NOTICE AT WORKINGTON. At the Workington Police Court, on Wednesday, Mr. J. WILSON, solicitor, gave notice of his intention to apply for the temporary transfer of the license of the Queen's Arms, King-street, Workington, from James HARRISON to John GRAHAM. ****** |
