MARRIAGE AT EGREMONT. On Tuesday Forenoon the marriage of Mr. Jos. KITCHIN (eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. KITCHIN of the Cote Close Farm, Egremont, and underground manager of the Gillfoot Park Mines), to Miss. RIGG (eldest daughter of Mr. George RIGG, miller and corn merchant, Egremont), took place at the Parish Church, the officiating clergyman being the Rev. John DEASON, Egremont. Rain fell heavily during the forenoon, but in spite of this a number of people assembled at the church and were greatly interested in the ceremony. As the wedding party entered the church the organist, Miss. TOWERSON, played Lohengrin's Wedding March, and as they were leaving the sacred building Mendelson's Wedding March was played. On the bridal party arriving at the church door they were met by showers of confetti and rice. The bride who was given away by her eldest brother, Mr. J. RIGG, was attired in a most handsome champagne-coloured silk dress, trimmed with accordion-pleated chiffon and bebe ribbon and let in with silk insertion, with elbow sleeves and transparent yoke, and had on a black chenille hat trimmed with black ostrich plumes, and carried an exquisite white shower bouquet, which, together with a gold brooch, set with pearls, were the gifts of the bridegroom. The bride was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss. S. RIGG, sister of the bride and Miss. M. KITCHIN, sister of the bridegroom. The bridesmaids wore lovely dresses of cream canvas voile flounced and edged with bebe ribbon, and had green belts. They also wore green velvet hats trimmed with white ostrich plumes, ospreys and silk to match. Each bridesmaid carried a lovely white shower bouquet of lilies and chrysanthemums, carnations and roses, and wore gold bangles, the gift of the bridegroom. After the wedding breakfast, which was held at the home of the bride, Mill House, the customary good wishes were extended to the newly married couple, and these congratulations were acknowledged by Mr. KITCHIN. Later on Mr. and Mrs. J. KITCHIN drove to St. Bees, where they took the 12-35 train en route for Scotland, where the honeymoon is to be spent. The brides travelling costume was a light grey cloth faced with velvet to match, and she wore a grey hat, trimmed with plumes of cherry coloured ribbon. Mr. and Mrs. J. KITCHIN have been the recipients of a large number of costly and useful presents, including a Church Service, the gift of the Sunday School in which the bride has taught for some years. Later on in the day the guests drove to Wasdale, where a very pleasant time was spent. They returned home in the evening when the festivities were resumed, and kept up with enthusiasm until a late hour. ****** |
