LOCAL VERSE. ****** AT ST. BEES. I wandered by thy pebbly beach, St. Bees, - Thy lovely beach unstained by vulgar man; And quaffed rich draughts of Heaven's Elysian breeze, And rendered thanks for God's all-perfect plan. Away, I said, with festive seaside places, Their crowds henceforth shall hold no charms for me, St. Bees shall be the haven of my graces, For I am peaceful as a soul set free ! No noisy tripper sullies this pur air - No rowdy throng here desecrates the calm - All is paradise divinely fair, All is glad and sanctifying balm. Here on finds rest and heath and sweet content, And food for thought at priceless blessings sent ! Chas. F. FORSHAW, Wasdale House, St. Bees, Sep. 5th 1905 Published by special arrangement. ****** |
