HARRINGTON URBAN DISTRICT COUNCIL. At a meeting of this Council, held last Wednesday night, there were present: P. T. CORRIS, Chairman A. HOLMES J. SHAKLEY R. MILLICAN T. CRELLIN I. GRAHAM J. BOWLY, Clerk C. W. EAGLESFIELD, Surveyor W. WHITE, Collector ELECTRIC LIGHTING. A letter was read from Messrs. BAIN & Co.re: supplying of electric light at Lowca Brow, stating that they would be glad to discuss the matter with the surveyor and engineer. Mr. MILLICAN moved that the Chairman and Messrs. HOLMES and SCHAKLEY be sub committee to confer with Messrs. BAIN & Co. and report on the matter. This was agreed to. Dr. CULLEN, medical Officer, reported there had been 19 births during the quarter, and five deaths in the same period. The death rate for July was 29.8 per thousand, and birth rate 28.28. There had been two cases of infectious diseases and several cases of measles. The Surveyor reported that the water supply throughout the district had be satisfactory and plentiful with the exception of Lowca and Main Side tanks. The mains from the Whins down to the Hollins Bridge had been flushed according to instructions. The stop valve near Primrose Terrace had been taken out and re-fixed. There had been a fever case at Hollins, High Harrington, and the patient had been removed to the Galemire Hospital., The report was adopted. The Cyclists Touring Club wrote stating that they had forwarded six danger boards for erection in Harrington and district. The Chairman moved a vote of condolence to the late Mr. James THOMPSON's nearest relatives, viz., his wife and Mrs. Chas. DODDS. He had been a member of this council for very many years, and was the first member of the council or ex-member who had died since the Council was formed. He had been a good member, and an excellent Chairman, and he had enhanced his good reputation during the two years he was chairman of the council.
