BRUSSELS GAZETTE.

EXTRAORDINARY.

August 19.  The French foreseeing that Quesnoy and Maubeuge would be soon
besieged, had posted a considerable body of their troops in the forest of
Mornal, the situation of which is such that it would have been easy for them
to molest from thence the troops employed in besieging one or other of these
places.

When intelligence of this was received, it was resolved to dislodge them
from this advantageous position.

General PRINCE de HOHENLOHE accordingly attacked them on the 17th with so
much skill and bravery, that notwithstanding their resistance, he put them
completely to flight, and drove them from the forest.

The enemy left 500 dead on the spot, and had about 300 taken prisoners.

We soon expect further details of this event, so interesting for our future
operations.
