SUICIDE OF A YOUNG WOMAN. _____ We stated last week that a young woman, one of the unfortunates of the town, committed suicide by throwing herself into the sea from the end of the West Pier, Whitehaven. The tide was on the ebb at the time and the body being taken out to sea, was not recovered until Sunday evening, when it was washed up on the north sands, where it was found about half past eight o’clock. On Monday, W. LUMB, Esq., coroner, and a respectable jury, of whom Mr. BOUSTEAD was foreman, held an inquest touching the death of the unfortunate girl at the house of Mr. DALZELL, the Anchor Inn, Tangier Street. After hearing the evidence, the jury returned a verdict of “Found drowned without any marks of violence.” ________________________ Transcribed by: Ann Selchick, 01/11/2006 |
