A CHEESE DODGE. _____ A man named Frederick WHITE, of Shrewsbury, is now in the custody of the Whitehaven Police on a charge of going about the country imposing on the public by pretending to sell the real new milk Cheshire Cheese. He is provided with a number of inferior Dutch cheese, which are “plugged” with a small quantity of the “real article,” of which the public are invited to taste. Byt his dodge, he succeeded lately in passing off to Joseph FIDLER, grocer, George-street, a number of his spurious articles, for which he was paid the sum of £1. 18s. 1 ½ d. Shortly after making the purchase Mr. FIDLER discovered the “take in” and gave the information to the police, who consequently apprehended WHITE. ________________________ Transcribed by: Ann Selchick, 01/11/2006 |
